Does HubSpot work in mainland China?
Not reliably. Chinafy’s 2024 tests on three HubSpot-built sites show that pages take ≈17–21 seconds to finish loading from Beijing in the “faster” examples and up to 36 seconds or time-out completely in the worst case, far above the sub-2 second benchmark Chinese users expect.
Code-based incompatibilities: HubSpot themes frequently call third-party assets such as Google Fonts, Facebook/ZoomInfo pixels and other libraries that are blocked or perform very slowly in Mainland China.
Infrastructure issues: Site assets (images, CSS, JS) are served from HubSpot’s global Cloudflare PoPs outside the mainland, so every request can add hundreds of milliseconds of round-trip delay per file.
What happens when an HubSpot site is accessed in China?
Visitors can face long blank screens (20s+), partial or failed asset retrieval (e.g., “hubfs” images may return 4xx errors), missing fonts/styles and stalled scripts. In some cases, as with a Quikly landing page tested by Chinafy, the page never completes and times out entirely, leaving a visibly “broken” or non-functional experience.

Rebuilding your site for China and securing an ICP license along with other prerequisites to onshore hosting can take six months or more and add significant cost.

Do I need an ICP license for a HubSpot site?
An ICP filing or license is legally required only if you opt for mainland China hosting or use a China-based CDN where ICP compliance is mandatory. This requirement applies to any website that is physically hosted within China or utilizes China-based infrastructure - regardless of the CMS or site-building platform being used.
Does adding a China CDN solve HubSpot site performance issues?
A China-based CDN can improve loading speeds as static assets will be delivered from a node closer to the end user. However, as with onshore hosting, a China CDN only solves part of the problem with cross-border China web performance. A CDN does not handle for third-party resources, which are often the primary technical reason why a site performs poorly in mainland China.
