The Challenge

Mendix’s global website is built on WordPress and hosted via WP Engine. While this setup works well for much of the world, but inside China, things were a different story:

“Loading times were inconsistent. While it would sometimes load in a reasonable amount of time, more often than not it would take up to 2-3 minutes and the page would still only partially load.”

The site was loading very slowly (38+ seconds) for Chinese visitors due to a mix of infrastructure and code-based incompatibility issues, typical for WP Engine-hosted sites in China.

Many third-party resources (e.g., external scripts, fonts, embeds) either failed to load in China or loaded so slowly that it was degrading the user experience.

Without optimized delivery, page interactivity and site conversion potential in China were at risk.

WP Engine, while providing strong global performance, cannot guarantee reliable performance or full resource delivery in China without additional optimization.

That gap mattered — Mendix needed to ensure that their brand experience, content and lead-capture functionality worked reliably in China without rebuilding the site or deploying a separate China-only version.

The Solution
